After watching the videos, i would like to change some of my minds written on the article "What Are Foods".
Nowadays, we can hardly find any foods available in the supermarket that are free from any synthetic chemicals. Most of the foods today have been "contaminated" by various chemicals such as synthetic preservatives and colourings. These chemicals are associated with certain diseases such as cancer if their concentration in our body reach a certain critical level.
In order to earn the maximum profits, some companies process foods via advanced technologies that are against the rules of nature. For example, the chickens in the farm are given injections or fed with foods containing the growth boosters that we do not know so that they can grow faster and bigger to get more meat. Those manufacturers give the highest priority to their profits instead of the health of consumers. Some of the advertisements also mislead consumers about some facts. For example, some consumers believe that all fats are bad while this is not true at all.
Even the raw materials contain certain harmful chemicals such as pesticides that will cause various diseases if they accumulate in our body and reach certain level. To get rid of the pests that will decrease the yield of the crops, some farmers spray pesticides on their crops which will remain on the surface or even penetrate into the flesh and finally enter our body once being eaten. (perhaps this is the way the plants revenge on humans for being eaten, haha...)
Realizing the disadvantages of the modern farming using pesticides, the trend of organic foods is getting more and more popular. This is a good phenomenon showing that consumers are concerning on their health. However, the populations who are consuming on organic foods are still small as organic foods are more expensive and not as available as such modern foods. Perhaps what we can do is to develop technologies that can reduce the cost of manufacturing the organic foods while ensuring their quality.
